Getting your photos, documents and business files off a drive that is failing, deleted, or locked inside a machine that will not turn on.
Most recovery work is not dramatic. A drive starts failing but still responds, a laptop dies with everything on it, or someone deletes a folder that turns out to have mattered. We use imaging tools such as ddrescue to take a copy of the drive first and work from that copy, so the failing original is not put through any more wear than necessary.
We do software-level recovery. We do not run a clean room, and a drive with a genuine mechanical failure — a head crash, a seized motor, the clicking that goes with either — needs one. Plenty of shops take that job anyway and charge for the attempt. We would rather point you at a specialist lab on day one, while the drive is still in a recoverable state.
Recovery is the expensive way to get files back. Once yours are safe we will set up a backup that runs without anybody remembering to run it, so the next failed drive is an inconvenience rather than an emergency. If the drive failed inside a laptop, laptop repair covers what happens to the machine itself.
Imaging a failing drive can take a while — we will tell you what we are seeing, and what it will cost, before the work goes any further.
Free estimate before any work begins, and you approve the price before we start. Repairs carry a 90-day warranty on our labor, plus whatever warranty the manufacturer provides on any parts we install. If you are already a customer and your question takes us under fifteen minutes on the phone, there is no charge for it.
A trip charge may apply for longer distances. The warranty does not cover a machine that is re-infected with malware after we clean it.
